Two Metro East-area men have filed a class-action suit against the tobacco industry.

The plaintiffs are Randy K. Force of Madison County and Danny Kent Kessler of St. Clair County. The suit says both are longtime smokers. Force has throat cancer, and Kessler has emphysema, the suit says.

Lawyer Judy L. Cates of Swansea filed the case Wednesday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.

She said the suit aims to protect her clients' interests by getting them quickly into the growing line of people seeking a piece of the tobacco companies' dwindling assets. . .

The suit seeks more than $75,000 for each member of the "class," plus costs and attorney's fees.
