Intro:

The billboards with advertisement of tobacco products near elementary and secondary schools were banned by the legislation passed by the Chamber of Deputies today.

The billboards cannot be erected less than 300 metres from the schools. Moreover, the legislation toughens the conditions of the advertising for alcohol and excessive use of medicines.

The law regulating advertisement introduces compulsory warning of the harmful character of smoking which must cover at least 20 percent of the matchbox. At present the area is at least 10 percent.

"We've toughened the legislation, which is very good. But it also good that the Chamber of Deputies did not accept some proposals to absolutely ban the advertising for cigarettes," Tomas Teplik from the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), who drafted the bill, told CTK.
