Restrictions on tobacco and alcohol advertising have long been in effect on the Ukrainian advertising market. The only way for producers to advertise cigarettes and booze straightforwardly is by means of billboard advertising: signs, billboards, light boxes, etc. Cigarette advertisements have conquered about 40 per cent of the billboard advertising market. Mobile phone advertising is the runner-up, and alcohol is in third place. Advertising alcohol and tobacco by means of promoting trademarks, which is widely spread in Ukraine, is also banned. Experts say that the strict restrictions imposed on advertising can adversely affect the tobacco market as a whole, and local cigarette brands will be most vulnerable in such circumstances.
