Kyrgyz aromatized tobacco growers first among CIS countries [Source: BBC Monitoring Central Asia] 

Kyrgyzstan has reached first place among the CIS countries in the production of aromatized tobacco. This has been announced at an international scientific research conference entitled: "The current state of the tobacco sector and more scientific back-up for it in the Russian Federation and other CIS countries". The Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the all- union scientific research institute of tobacco, makhorka and tobacco goods, which is located in Krasnodar, are the organizers of the conference. . .

The press service of the Kyrgyztamekesi [Kyrgyz Tobacco] state joint-stock company reported that during the discussion of [tobacco] selection work and its results throughout the CIS, it was recommended to add precisely the Kyrgyz product as a component to the cigarettes which were being produced by CIS tobacco enterprises. The main criterion is the low content of nicotine and harmful resin in tobacco leaves.
