'Barefoot Diva' with an African soul 

Mindelo, Cape Verde Islands - In an unremarkable terraced house on a cobbled street in a small town on a speck of an island off the west coast of Africa lives a grandmother who has sold more than 3 million music albums.

She is known on five continents as the “Barefoot Diva”, who sings at sell-out concerts without shoes.

Despite her achievements, Cesaria Evora - whose spine-tingling interpretations of traditional Cape Verdean music have earned her four Grammy nominations and a long-running place on Billboard’s world music charts - does not stand out in a crowd, nor does she court fame. . .
