Wichita County still undecided on how to spend tobacco settlement money

Intro:

Wichita County initially received $2.1 million in January 1999 and another $230,000 in April 2000 as its share of Texas tobacco money. With the windfall, commissioners established an informal policy regarding the funds - the money could only be spent on health care related issues.

So far, though, only a small percentage of the funds have been allocated. Most - about $2.1 million, in fact - sits in the county's reserve fund.
