Intro: Eight months after West Hollywood's city council directed its City Attorney to draft a comprehensive ordinance prohibiting smoking in outdoor patios and open air spaces, the council will review, discuss and dispose of the Draft Ordinance on Tuesday Night.
The bill's introduction caused a firestorm of reaction from those who see the city as tolerant of people's "adult" pleasures and who feared sending a mixed message about the city.

Some people in support of the measure were no less vehement in their advocacy for the ban than the commercial and libertarian interests, using first-person stories to illustrate their oft-stated assertion that "second-hand smoke kills." . . .
He summed up the central disagreements as a polarity of two strongly held opinions.
"One opinion is that we should ban smoking everyplace we possibly can," he said. "The other is that we're a unique city and it's part of our culture to allow people to smoke," said Mr. Arevalo.
And so, after eight months and seven meetings, that Outdoor Smoking Ordinance Task Force has completed its work and will present its admittedly fractured findings. . . .
People hoping to make comment on the issue should expect a long night, caution regular city hall watchers.
