Intro: The majority of the Moulton City Council said Monday business owners, not the city council, should decide whether customers can smoke indoors at privately owned establishments.
Councilman Lee Taylor started a discussion about a possible smoking ordinance for Moulton at a council work session.
“I would like to see a smoking ordinance, but if I’m the only one that’s for it, I won’t pursue it,” he said.
Mayor Ray Alexander and Councilman Billy Lovett said the decision on whether to allow smoking in restaurants and other businesses should be left to the business owners. Councilman Brent White said he prefers not to be around cigarette smoke, but didn’t feel strongly enough about the issue to adopt an ordinance restricting it.
He said a smoking ordinance might be something the council should look into because of the wet/dry issue.
