Intro:

To support the growing number of Pennsylvanians who are trying to quit smoking as a result of the recent increase in federal cigarette taxes, the Department of Health today reminded smokers to call Pennsylvania's toll-free Quitline or visit www.determinedtoquit.com.

"The average smoker makes between five and eight quit attempts before being successful, but those who have support are more likely to succeed," said Secretary of Health Everette James. "The services we provide through our Quitline and Web site can boost your chance of success."

By calling the Quitline at 1-800-QUIT NOW (1-800-784-8669), tobacco users will receive counseling from highly trained intake specialists and cessation counselors.
