Intro: Despite what Beason thinks, the state has a compelling interest in protecting its citizens from smoke-related illnesses. It's the state, after all, that must pay to take care of many of those who get sick.
The House should quickly pass the bill, and Gov. Bob Riley should sign it so Alabama can join most of the other states that have credible anti-smoking laws.
