Bowling-alley owners opt to ban tobacco Jump to full article: Central Penn Business Journal, 2008-05-02 Author: Eric Veronikis
Intro: Smoke 'em if you got 'em if you're in a Harrisburg-area bowling alley in the next week or two.
Area alleys soon will ban smoking to protect employees and customers and to cut building maintenance costs, alley owners said. One owner has already ended smoking in his establishment.
Some alleys, like Red Crown Bowling Center in Swatara Township, will permit smoking in their lounges. But the rest of the sections will be smoke free. Red Crown, Trindle Bowl and ABC East, West and North will not permit smoking in their lanes.
The decision comes as state legislators debate whether to ban smoking in restaurants, bars, casinos and other public places.
"I think we all felt in the Harrisburg area that we are going to have a law forced on us sooner or later," said Don Kirkpatrick, owner of Red Crown. "We are trying to show the state that we can police it ourselves. We don't need to have additional laws."
