Intro: The familiar wall of tobacco products that greets customers at their local convenience store will soon be outlawed.
On May 31, new provincial rules kick in banning cigarettes from being displayed behind store counters in Ontario.
Instead of "power walls," smokes will be stored in drawers or overhead containers, or hidden behind canvas flaps.
The Niagara public health unit and the province tout the long-awaited regulation - part of the Smoke-Free Ontario Act - as a way to discourage impulse purchases and help prevent youths from taking up the habit.
"It's going to help people who are trying to quit not to go into a corner store and see it (tobacco) and have that impulse to purchase,"
