Smoking in public places banned in Eau Claire

Intro:

A smoking ban, similar to the proposed Marshfield ordinance, was passed by the Eau Claire City Council Tuesday.

The vote was 7-4 to make smoking illegal in bars and other public workplaces. The law takes effect in July and will make Eau Claire the fifth Wisconsin community to prohibit public smoking.

"This is the inevitable result of the state refusing to take action on this," said David Wille, Breath Free Marshfield chairman. "Communities are taking the bull by the horns and doing it themselves."
