Intro: The number of smokers trying to quit fell last year, figures revealed.
The statistics were released the day before the second anniversary of the ban on smoking in public places coming into effect.
The figures, based on information from the national smoking cessation database, showed that smokers made 41,424 attempts to give up during 2007.
That is 11% down from 2006, when there were 46,466 quit attempts.
