Patients in smoking ban challenge

Intro:

Patients at a top security psychiatric hospital are launching a human rights test case challenge over the Government's smoking ban.

Detained patients, or former patients, at Rampton in Nottinghamshire say the ban, which came into force last year, is a "disproportionate interference" with their rights under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Three patients are all seeking judicial review before Lord Justice Pill and Mr Justice Silber at the High Court in London.
