THAT Smoking/Non-smoking light next to the seatbelt sign on passenger planes could soon be a thing of the past.

Air France has begun a six-month trial of a new initiative which will see the 'No Smoking' signal lights make way for 'No Phone' lights.

"We are seizing every opportunity to offer customers the latest technological innovations, while continuing to make their travel comfort and well-being our main priority", said Patrick Roux, Air France Executive Vice President Marketing.

Now that nearly all air services are non-smoking, the no-smoking sign is switched on permanently, even though most passengers are aware that smoking is no permitted.
