Intro: For now, travelers and employees can't light up anywhere on the Indianapolis International Airport's grounds, but an exemption to the new nonsmoking policy may make that short-lived.

The ordinance, passed Friday 6-1 by the airport board, allows the airport director to approve outdoor designated smoking areas, which director Robert Duncan said likely would be at the ends of the terminal.
That exemption was enough to persuade board Treasurer Stuart Grauel to vote against the ordinance, which he said is pointless if it does not outright ban smoking.
