Intro: Salt Lake County soon could snuff out smoking at nearly 100 outdoor parks and recreation facilities.
The County Council could decide today whether smokers can keep puffing in public parks - a move that could render smoke-free every county recreational facility from the equestrian center in South Jordan to Meadowbrook Golf Course in Taylorsville to the hang-gliding park in Draper.
"We don't want to discriminate against the people," said Kathy Baebler, the Salt Lake Valley Health Department's tobacco-prevention program manager. "We want to discriminate against the behavior."
