Intro: The Association of Hungarian Tobacco Industry expects a 7% excise tax increase for 2008, as Hungary must comply with European Union regulations that prescribe EUR 64 tax per 1,000 cigarettes, President AndrĂ¡s Patai said on Thursday.
This increase was calculated at EUR/HUF 255, he added.
Hungary's government raised excise tax on tobacco by 2.8% as of 1 April this year and will carry out another 2.8% hike in September.
