Intro: The proposed anti-smoking ordinance is scheduled to come up for a vote at tonight's Madison City Council meeting.
"Our plan is to try to vote on it," said Council President Tommy Overcash. "I anticipate there will be some discussion on four or five parts of it to see if we can get close to a consensus on it."
Among the items he expects will be discussed include the age limitation on who can enter a smoking establishment and the definition of an enclosed room for smokers.
The proposed Clean Indoor Air Ordinance says no one under 19 years of age shall be allowed in such establishments unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The legal age to purchase tobacco in Alabama is 19, but residents are considered an adult at age 18.
