STATEWIDE LAW PROHIBITS PEOPLE FROM LIGHTING UP AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS

According to a new Oregon policy, there can be no use of tobacco products on school property at any time, including at sporting events. For Brookings-Harbor School District, this includes the parking lots near the baseball and football fields, as well as the area near the entrances to any school building.

The American Lung Association of Oregon, the Department of Human Services Tobacco Prevention and Education Program, as well as the Oregon School Boards Association worked together to improve the tobacco-free policies in school districts across the state.

Brookings-Harbor School District Superintendent Chris Nichols said the district has been making strides to implement the policy for more than a year, and has posted signs to inform people of the restrictions.
