Intro: With a degree in journalism, I am well aware of how the layout of a daily newspaper works, featuring the most important, or "newsworthy," stories on the front page. Above the fold, the editor decides which story is the most important for that day, while below it, the less essential pieces can be found.
Knowing this, I was astonished on Aug. 8 to find the obituary of Peter Jennings below the fold in what can only be described as a blurb.
It was the day after one of the best journalists of our time lost his battle with lung cancer and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel published Dan Marino's Hall of Fame induction front, center and above the fold.
By doing this, you have sent the message to South Floridians that the NFL star's induction is more important than the death of a highly respected man who entered our living rooms nearly each night for the past 40 years.
