Intro: Police are finding fewer incidents of businesses selling tobacco products to minors, according to city officials.
During its Thursday meeting, the Muscatine City Council voted unanimously to accept settlement agreements between the city and Hy-Vee, doing business as DrugTown, JBC, LLC, doing business as Fast Avenue One Stop and Walgreens for violation under the state code of employees selling cigarettes to minors.
Hy-Vee signed and returned a settlement agreement to the city regarding a civil penalty for the business's first local violation of an employee selling tobacco products to a minor. Hy-Vee made a full payment of $300 for the violation.
JBC, LLC, sent the city a settlement payment of $1,500 for a second violation of the code and Walgreens made a $300 settlement payment for its first violation.
