Series of break-ins focus on cigarettes 

The AP station wasn’t the first place victimized by smash-and-grab bandits. Similar attacks around Stark County have been reported in recent weeks. The thieves use stolen vehicles to ram into the building so they can steal cigarettes, a tradeable commodity on the streets.

Canton police say they believe the four cigarette heists that occurred in the area Friday night are related to three others in Canton in the last week or so. The Holland Oil Co. gas station at 1212 12th St. NW was hit twice by cigarette thieves recently, and the Speedway gas station at Harmont Avenue and Mahoning Road NE was burglarized, said Detective Sgt. Dan Heaton.
