Japan Tobacco shares slip after buyout report 

But caution soon spread about whether JT's bold plans in the tobacco industry -- whose profit potential is seen as limited -- will ultimately benefit JT earnings.

``People are getting more sceptical over whether the buyout will really benefit JT's future earnings,'' said Kokichi Kumagae, a manager at New Japan Securities Co Ltd.

He said: ``Right now, investors are taking to the sidelines to see how the acquisition will affect JT's profits.''
