Intro: TASMANIA'S peak health groups will launch an advertising campaign today calling for a ban on smoking in pubs and bars.
The Cancer Council of Tasmania and Quit Tasmania are behind the month-long campaign, which will run on Southern Cross and Tasmanian Digital Television throughout the state. The campaign is the latest development in a growing push for smoking to be immediately banned in hospitality venues in a bid to cut the number of preventable lung cancers. The television commercial features actors portraying bar staff who are worried about their health as they work in smokey bars. Quit executive director Michael Wilson said smoke-free workplaces for hospitality staff were urgently needed.
