PREMIER Paul Lennon says he will not allow his decision to give up smoking to be used as an anti-smoking campaign.

Mr Lennon, who went cold turkey on February 23 after his closest mate and former Premier Jim Bacon announced he had lung cancer, said smoking was an individual choice. "I don't intend to become a zealot about it," Mr Lennon said. "I don't want this and I won't allow this to be used as some sort of campaign initiative." Mr Bacon's public comments about lung cancer, and Mr Lennon's very public battle to give up the cigarettes, had fuelled unprecedented interest from other Tasmanians keen to kick the habit.
