Intro: BAT (British American Tobacco) has closed down a cigarettes plant set up in 1997 and began imports and distribution of its tobacco blends from Argentina and Chile. Currently it has only 25 employees. The Uruguayan cigarettes market is cornered by Tabacos Monte Paz (Philip Morris) that has a 70% share, Abal with 20%, and BAT with only 10% of it.
