Intro: Officials considered several options Tuesday in response to a request that they ban smoking on the city's two miles of beaches.
The options before the San Clemente parks commission include a ban on smoking at beaches, piers and parks, and whether or not to enforce the ban with a fine. Commissioners are expected to act on them at a meeting next month.
"We'll provide them with implications and alternatives," said Bill Humphreys, the city's marine safety chief. "They'll get almost a cafeteria of choices."
If an ordinance is eventually passed by the City Council, San Clemente would follow Solana Beach
