Intro: As New Yorkers continue adjusting to stricter rules about smoking in public places, the New York Health Plan Association (HPA) today announced that the Medical Directors of its member health plans have endorsed a common smoking cessation guideline and provider guide aimed at helping patients become tobacco free.
"As part of their comprehensive approach to health care, HPA member plans have long sought to educate their members and the general public about the dangers of smoking, and to help members who do smoke quit," said Michael Cropp, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Independent Health and co-chair of the HPA Medical Directors Forum. "Having a common guideline for treating tobacco use and dependence will greatly assist in plans' efforts to support physicians in helping patients kick the habit."
