COLDWATER -- The fate of the "butt hut" employee smoking structure at the Community Health Center of Branch County has become a critical issue for enforcement of the center's new non-smoking policy.

The butt hut, behind the hospital building, will be eliminated by Jan. 1 as part of a new smoke-free policy for the center, inside and outside.

Hospital employee Jeffrey A. Hodges spoke to the center's board of trustees Monday asking that the butt hut be maintained for employee smoking.

"I would like you to consider an accommodation for the employees to allow continued smoking at the smoking hut at that location," Hodges said.
