Intro: A LUNG-cancer victim given up to two years to live this week delivered a powerful anti-smoking message.
Lesley Gilfillan's illness has been blamed on a 30-year nicotine habit that began when she was at school.
But at only 43, the former DAKS Simpson press operator, who was also employed as a North Lanarkshire Council care worker, is considered young to have contracted the killer disease. . . .
But despite her cancer - discovered in June last year after she had experienced breathing difficulties - Lesley is determined to have her say about the dangers of smoking.
Lesley, of Miller Street, Larkhall, who smoked up to 40-a-day said: "This is a terrible disease that I would not wish on anyone.
"And if, by speaking out, I am able to stop one person smoking and going through what I have had to experience this past year-and-a-half, then it will have been worth it."
And she added: "I also hope that any young person reading this will also be discouraged from taking up smoking." . . .
Lesley's message was timed to coincide with Cancer Awareness month staring on November 1.
