LETTER: No-smoking laws will only discourage tourist trade 

I disagree with the recommendation of the Smart Growth Committee to prohibit smoking on Lee County beaches. It is punitive and restrictive. Taxing cigarettes is not the solution either. A public service campaign to educate the public to pick up cigarette butts and dispose of them would be a better solution, just as was done with soft drink and beer cans and trash of any nature. Motto: “When you leave the beach, leave only your footsteps behind.”
