Intro: Irish Minister for Health Michel Martin has welcomed new research which shows that smoking is costing the Irish economy up to 5 million euro a day.
The study by the Office of Tobacco Control reveals that the cost is directly associated with increased absenteeism and a fall in productivity among smokers.
