Intro: Bahrain's leading anti-smoking campaigner has urged the government to take steps urgently to sign and ratify the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) as quickly as possible to prevent a further loss of lives from tobacco-related diseases, writes Mandeep Singh.
Chamber of Deputies member and former deputy head of health education at the Ministry of Health Dr Salah Ali, who has been at the forefront of the anti-smoking campaign in Bahrain for the last several years, commented that the success of the FCTC as a tool for public health will depend on the energy and political commitment that countries devote to implementing it in the next few years. ``The result will be global public-health gains for all.
