Smokefree dining in Montclair

Across the nation, local governments have placed restrictions on smoking in public places, including restaurants. Even though smoke-free restaurants aren’t mandatory in New Jersey, Montclair has more than 40 restaurants that choose to be smoke free.

“We’re very pleased that restaurants in Montclair have taken the initiative to not only protect their patrons but [also] employees from secondhand smoke. Thousands of restaurants in the United States are smoke free,” said Karen Blumenfeld, attorney with NJ GASP (Group Against Smoking Pollution).

Inspired by literature from NJ GASP, restaurant owner Tom Moloughney decided to make Nauna’s on Valley Road smoke free back in 1995. Moloughney said that through the past eight years, he’s only had about a dozen customers who said they wished Nauna’s had a smoking section.
