Intro: Attorney General Mike Fisher today announced that Pennsylvania has joined a national settlement resolving numerous disputes under the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) with tobacco companies. Under the settlement, companies have agreed to pay the states $160 million to resolve the claims. Fisher said Pennsylvania's share will be $9.98 million and is scheduled to be made by June 30. . .
Fisher said B&W manufactured cigarettes for Star Tobacco Co., a company that refused to join the 1998 national settlement, and excluded those cigarettes from determining its payments to the states. The states argued that the practice violated the terms of the settlement and Vermont, on behalf of all the states, filed a lawsuit against B&W seeking payments for the Star cigarettes.
