"I'm not going to get caught in the politics," Dr. Colin D'Cunha said in October, 1998, after his appointment as Ontario's chief medical health officer. . .

The government is also a fan. In January, Clement handed D'Cunha new duties as the commissioner of public health, naming him assistant deputy minister of health.

Earlier this month, he was also named to the Ontario Security Council, which is chaired by Dr. James Young, provincial commissioner of public security.

D'Cunha began his career in his native India, where he graduated in medicine from the University of Bombay. After immigrating to Toronto, D'Cunha obtained a masters of health sciences degree from the University of Toronto in 1985. He has since worked in public health at both the local and provincial levels, including a lengthy stint as Scarborough's medical officer of health.
