Intro:

If you still have yet to make known your stance on a proposed smoking ban, Thursday might be your night. Or Monday. Or Tuesday.

Three public gatherings that will address banning puffing in bars and restaurants are coming up. . .

"People from all walks of life, not just health people, are pouring out," said Ellen Hahn, a University of Kentucky professor who has helped lead the movement for a ban. "I think they've been the silent majority. Now they're seeing this as a possibility and that maybe they can make a difference."

Meanwhile, the county's Board of Health is drafting a regulation that would make it a health code violation to smoke in restaurants and bars. The board will hear the draft Monday evening and could vote on the regulation as early as April. A public hearing would be held then.

Also next week, Joseph-Beth Booksellers will host a town hall meeting to discuss the ban at 7 p.m. Tuesday, which will be broadcast live on WVLK-590 AM. Restaurant and bar owners, a handful of council members and a health department official will debate and answer questions from the audience.
