Pupils designed their own posters warning people of the risks and learnt about the dangers of smoking which staff hope they will take heed of and spread the message to family and friends.

Teacher Jill Jones did her part in spreading the message by dressing up as a giant cigarette and shouting the message to "Kick The Habit".

Smoking: Costs will vanish in a puff of smoke

Emma Lunn looks at the mortgage and insurance benefits of quitting on No Smoking Day
Jump to full article: The Independent (uk), 2008-03-09

Intro:

Wednesday's No Smoking Day is the first since the ban in public places came in, and 2.25 million people are expected to try to quit this week. Anyone who succeeds will find their bank balance improves, as well as their health.

Being classed as a non-smoker means premiums can become about 50 per cent cheaper for many types of insurance, such as life cover and critical illness policies.

Research by broker Lifesearch shows that a non-smoking 40-year-old female taking out £100,000 of level term assurance over 30 years with insurer Aegon would pay almost half the monthly premiums of a smoker (£12.61 against £24.98) and save £4,453.20 over the term.

Jump to full article: Medical News TODAY(UK), 2008-03-06

Intro:

No Smoking Day charity marks its 25th annual campaign on 12 March 2008 and is encouraging smokers to take The Great No Smoking Day Challenge to feel healthier and fitter!

This year's theme acknowledges quitting is not easy and invites smokers to commit to a smokefree week. The No Smoking Day website offers free quit packs, text messages and emails to go on to make a lifelong commitment. Individual smokers can also get sponsorship for quitting as well as raise funds for their favourite charity through the JustGiving.com website.

An another innovative way for quitters to stay quit is getting support from the No Smoking Day stop smoking forum. The forum has created an online home for smoker's stories and for ex-smokers to share their experiences, thoughts and support. The online forum is a popular communication tool, available 24/7 with almost 3,000 members.

The charity has also embraced social networking and created a Facebook group - The Great No Smoking Day Challenge - encouraging quitters to use the support from the group. A My Space account has also been created with friends such as Lily Allen and Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace.
