Intro: Without comment, the Supreme Court May 17 refused to revive a lawsuit
against the tobacco industry by six smokers from Pennsylvania. The six
had argued their case should be certified as a class action on behalf
of all smokers in the state.
Judgment had been granted to the tobacco companies and upheld on
appeal, when a district judge said five of the six plaintiffs had
missed the deadline to sue because they smoked for years despite
knowledge of the danger, and the sixth would not need any more medical
monitoring than would a non-smoker. [This graph only]
