Update on the race for NYC Mayor
Update on the race for NYC Mayor
Results from the SmokeFree QuestionnaireAugust 8, 2001
The [Alan] Hevesi and [Peter] Vallone mayoral campaigns continue to ignore our questionnaire [sent July 28] on smokefree workplace legislation. The other six candidates for New York City Mayor have all returned our smokefree questionnaire indicating that they support a worker's right to a safe, healthy, smokefree work environment.
If smokefree air is an important issue to you, you have the right to know where each candidate stands. Here are telephone numbers and contact names for each campaign:
HEVESI CAMPAIGN (Morris, Carrick, and Guma Consultants) 212-696-9308; Ask for Maura Keeney, Adam Freed, Dara Cohen, or Hank Morris.
Hevesi's campaign says it MIGHT return our questionnaire but refuses to say when. If smokefree air is important to you and you are considering voting for Hevesi, you have a right to know what Hevesi's position is on this important issue and approximately WHEN Hevesi will make his position known.VALLONE CAMPAIGN 212-791-2001; Ask for Ken McIntosh or Karen Persichelli.
Vallone's campaign has said that it will only issue a letter about smokefree air rather than return our questionnaire. If smokefree air is important to you and you are considering voting for Vallone, you have a right to know what Vallone's position is on this important issue and approximately WHEN Vallone will make his position known. The only way that these candidates can know that this issue is important to you is if you call and tell them. Do not be afraid to call. You have the right to call. You have the right to know where candidates for Mayor of New York City stand on New York City's #1 cause of disease and death.
If you do call, I hope you will share with us any feedback you receive.
Thank you for your support. Together we can win smokefree air.
